my kit came!

I recieved my kit today from Emma Scrimgeour. She made me a very nice cowl with a cute pin on it. There is some nice purple self striping sock yarn, a pattern for ankle socks, stitch markers and a whole lot of great smelling coffee. Thanks Emma!

I have been getting together all the last little pieces of my kit together. The yarn I ordered is really nice, I may have to order some for myself after the holidays are over. I am working on the handmade object and I am really happy with the color choices I made. I should have that wrapped up this weekend then I can just focus on wrapping everything up and getting some treats crammed into the box as well.

I can't believe this term is already half over. Although I am really enjoying the theme of this swap and the way the swap is working out, I do miss quidditch. I doubt I would have time for it even if we were playing this term. I have been continuing to work late nights/early mornings at the ministry. I think I have finally decided on an alternate handmade item for Cassie's kit. I am still not sure about it,but time is a wasting, I am going to try and get over to my fav yarn shop in diagon alley this weekend so I can get started.
I got a. New owl that comes with me to the ministry which I hope will help me communicate for the rest of this term.

I love the theme of this term at hogwarts. We are sending horcrux kits! I have so many fun ideas, and some rather creepy ones! I need to get some measurements from Cassandra and start working on the handmade item. It is very ambitious and I hope I can get it to turn out right. I am rather nervous after my last homemade item disaster (which I still have to finish the replacement for). So much to do, I think I need to see if I can get a time turner.

I got my super excellent kit yesterday when I came home from work for my dinner break. What a fabulous games kit. The first thing I saw when I opened the box was the cutest little crochet fox, made to look like my patronus.Battleship was a favorite game of mine as a kid and we will definately play it in the car this weekend when we go over the (Delaware)River and through the woods to granma's house. My son can't wait to play go fish and crazy eights and his old bedroom was decorated with Cars, so good call. The mini playing card set is sooo cute and they will fit nicely in my purse :) The yarn, THE YARN is so beatiful. I have the hardest time finding good purple sock yarn and this is self striping too, my favorite. My husband keeps laughing at me everytime I pass the yarn I have to pet it. There are no pictures of the coffee or the dove chocolates. I have already started drinking the organic coffee (which is yummy) and my husband took the chocolates with him to work. My son immediately went to work on the bertie bots but he stopped after he hit a cheese flavored bean!
Now I know the stickers were meant for scrapbooking, but I found a much better use for them, and this way I can see them everyday. I put them on the dashboard of my Beetle. The pictures are below but please ignore how badly my car needs to be cleaned!

Things have been busy over here. The ministry has switched me over to 2nd shift and my days and nights are all confused. The blocking stage of my handmade project did not come out as I had hoped and some of the felting was also not as desired. I am not trying to fix and redesign in order to get my owl out the door with the kit tomorrow. I have the whole day to work on it, I just hope I can get it to something I am happy with giving to Poppy. I think this project might have been a bit over ambitious for a 5 week swap, but then that is how I roll :)

I used to muggle camp all the time with girlscouts and I have always camped at least once a year since then both muggle and medieval camping. I do a 2 week medieval camping trip almost every year.
I have been on the train from NJ to Orlando and also from NJ to New Orleans. I also rode the train from college to home a lot.

I play guitar but not very well

I am definately feeling the pressure of a shorter timeling for this summer camp, however I have so many ideas for Poppy's kit. I think I have all the handmade items planned out. I need to go shopping and see what I can find in hogsmeade for the rest. There is one item I know I am going to need, but I think it is going to be difficult. Luckily I enjoy a challenge and it will be my mission to try and procure this item! I won't tell you what it is, but I will update you on my progress.

My biggest worry about summer camp is that HSKS 12 will need to be a weight loss camp after all the s'mores and butter beers :) Life is good in the bungalow.

I just signed up for Hogwarts summer camp. I had so much fun last term I just couldn't help myself. I have settled into the Black Lake Bungalow and have been haveing a great time drinking butterbeers and watching my bungelow mates play scrabble. The official start of camp is next week and I am looking forward to finding out who my spoilee is. My last spoiler showed me how fabulous a kit could be, so I definately need to step up my game.

I can hardly believe this is the last week of term. I am looking forward to a nice relaxing summer break, but I also can't wait till next term, whenever that may be. I love seeing all the great kits that my fellow classmates sent out. I have gotten a lot of good ideas for future swaps. Quidditch was super fun and I am so relieved I didn't have to play seeker!
I have lots of projects from my kit to keep me busy for a good long time. I stil haven't put anything away as I just like to admire my kit the way it is :)

So the family was running around like mad trying to get out the door by 7:30 am to get to Gromptons dueling competition today and as we were about to get in the car we found a very large box with a sleeping owl next to it! We must have not heard him tapping on the window poor thing. He was not very happy about the situation, but MY KIT HAS ARRIVED. Let me tell you "spoiled" does not even begin to describe this kit. Meladia went above and beyond on this kit, and she put in so many special thoughtful touches. If we are still doing "best Kit" this term, her name should definately be in for it.
She chose for my main character Molly Weasley but put in a little something from my other character pics Dumbledor and Snape.
She is currently in Italy and as she knew I was Catholic (she really did her homework) she bought me a beautiful rosary while she was visiting the Vatican!
My favorite thing has to be the AUTOGRAPHED copy of Guildaroy Lockharts "Magical Me".
I feel so spoiled, and so do my dogs that went right for the 2 dog bones in there for them. We all laughed here that Molly probably kept dog bones around for Sirius :)

I sent my owl on her way yesterday to Penelope. Hopefully she will arrive sometime next week. Hopefully she won't get lost on the way.
Tomorrow I am going to put on a Hufflepuff sweater and play keeper for their team. I am really hoping that tomorrow is the game that I finally block a goal!!! Well I need to be up bright and early for quidditch so I better get some good rest!

My owl is starting to get restless now that she sees me putting the finishing touches on the kit. I found that most beautiful yarn in hogsmead last week. I am going though the same "there is not enough in the kit" syndrom I go through at the end of every swap.
I am super excited about quidditch this sunday. I have to set up some timers so I know exactly how much time I have. I am glad we have more time to block a goal. It is hard to block and keep up with what is happening in game.

My owl finally arrived with all the materials needed for my homemade portiion of the kit. I am almost done with the main part, but as usual I keep adding on things to make to go with it! I will be picking up yarn this weekend at my favorite LYS in Hogsmeade. Now all that is left is the treats and I have a few ideas about that. But I am not telling yet!!

I am soooooo excited about our first Quidditch match this weekend against Ravenclaw. It is a little wierd playing against my old house, but at least I know they will make it an interesting game. I have been brushing up on my Potter trivia because knowing them they have had their beaters in the library for weeks coming up with the most obscure trivia they can find :) Being Slytherins we can just rely on our mad skills and immense talent so I am not at all worried ;)
On the kit front I think I may have found a pattern book I am happy with. Still have NO IDEA what yarn to get. Maybe I will just get the book delivered by Owl and then send the poor bird out for some fantastic yarn to compliment it. Everything else is coming along fine and I am hoping to get my handmade items done by the end of next week.

I am so excited to watch the first quidditch match of the term this weekend. I am glad we aren't playing till next weekend, gives me another week to practice my keeper skills. I am going to put my homework free status to good use and do some serious shopping in hogsmeade for my spoilee! I have the kit mostly planned out but I still have to decide on yarn, needles patterns. I have some ideas already and have some owls out gathering information for me.I only hope my spoilee loves her kit.
I am really enjoying the character theme this term. It gives me lots of great ideas. Well back to work researching pattern for yarn tranfiguration!

care of magical creatures homework

Here are my 5 items that I feel would be very useful in the care and upkeep of magical creatures

1. a good strong heat resistant helmet. You only have one head you need to take care of it.
2. shovels rakes and implements of destruction. The bigger the magical creature is, the bigger....mess...they leave behind.
3. Respirator. Have you ever smelled a wet hippogryph? Enough said.
4. gloves. Magical creature care is a messy business and all manner of liquids are ex
5. Tongs. Some of the smaller creatures are more easily handled using tongs. They are also helpful for getting nifflers out of the ground.

part II House elves.

1. They are smallish humaniod looking creatures with big ears and big eyes. Usually around 2.5-3 feet tall. They are usually only clothed in a tea towel, pillowcase and the like.

Transfiguration homework

It has been another hectic week down in the Slytherin house. I lost my duel last night but at least it was to another Slytherin!!

Here is my homework, I intended to do more, but this one transfiguration took ALOT of time.

Picture 1 is of my originatity marker (yes she is wearing a Ravenclaw scarf, that has been rectified!)
The next series of 3 pictures is of my finished bowtruckle, The 5th picture is after my first failed attempt. I decided to add some hot glue to the transfiguration components. The last picture is of all the components used in the spell.

My Characters

Molly Weasley:
I, like Molly, am a very practical knitter. Most of the garments and accesories I knit are for everyday wear by my family. I also believe that the more colors you use in a project the better chance you have of at least two of them matching. I admire her as a mother and can't imagine how she finds time to do it all with all those kids!Plus when she needs to be she is a bad ass!

Prof Snape:
Well of course the number one reason is that I love his voice and he is soooo bad it is sexy, but the main reason I chose Snape is Potions. I would LOVE to be potions master at Hogwarts! My muggle job is being a chemist and is about as close as I can come to making potions. I agree with him 100% that learning potions is the most important craft a witch or wizard can learn.

Prof Dumbledor:
I share Dumbledor's love of knowledge. Although I love poitions I find all the other areas of magic almost as interesting. I admire his wisdom and his compassion. I would also love to spend a few hours in his office playing around with all the cool magic items he has in there. I LOVE gadgets!I think he is also a spiffy dresser. And of course he loves a good knitting pattern.

New Term and a New House!

Wow it has been a long time since I have been back at Hogwarts. I have been traveling around the world, mostly on vacation but also trying to find a subject for my next independant study project in the Hogwarts adult education program. After searching around the globe, I decided to go back to my first love, Potions! After talking with the headmistress about my study plan, she suggested I join the Slytherin house this term as most of the greatest potion masters have come from Slytherin. I agreed and although I will miss the late nights studying with the gals of Ravenclaw tower, I look forward to my time in the dungeon with up and comming great witches and wizards of our age. I am so excited for this term, I just hope I can live up to the Slytherin standard!

On Holiday

Grompton and I decided to take a little vacation over to the Keys to visit our Wizarding family. I sent out my package before I left and I was so happy to see that my owl arrived safely and Daisy liked her package. Whew! I am glad that is over with. I will have to see if I will be able to do the next term. It has been so hard this term. I feel like I have missed out on too much of the fun! I can hardly bear to think of not attending Hogwarts though. Maybe in the fall things will ease up with Grompton in full time wizarding elementary school.

I just need to finish wrapping up a few things and pack it up tight for our owl. I am going away next week and everyone knows that American Owls don't fly on July 4th so my dear husband will be sending our owl out to Daisy next week. I can not wait for her to get it. I really hope she likes it. I spent more than I initially budgeted for on the sock yarn, but in my opinion it is totally worth it. Most of the contents of the kit were either hand made or painted by me. I had so much fun doing it, but I am also glad to be finished.

my Patronus

I am embarrassed to say that I haven't had to produce a patronus since I was in Hogwarts the first time around! Lucky for me I haven't ever run into a dementor. I had always had difficulty with the spell but after lots of hard work, in my younger days, I was able to produce a brilliant bald eagle! As expected it was just as difficult to produce one again, especially after such a long time! First finding a truly happy memory was very hard. I tried to use the day Grompton was born, but although I was extremely happy, I was also anxious, tired, and in a lot of pain! So I went back further in my memory and decided on my wedding day. As far as I am concerned it was my only truly "perfect" day. So I concentrated on that memory and yelled out "expecto Patronus" imagine my surprise when instead of a bald eagle, a fox emerged from the end of my wand! I guess my love of my husband has changed my patronus! I am so glad this assignment was given to us, otherwise I might have never known!!

OK my sock yarn quest, much like the strawberry plants in the garden, has born fruit!!! I have on the way to me some lovely slytherin colors (more or less) sock yarn that I really hope will not be itchy to my partner! I also orderd needles and the patterns. I have the fabric I need, now I have to sew. I haven't gotten a good idea about stitch markers yet. Hmmmmm...maybe I need to go up to the tower and see Proff. Trelawney and see if she can see what I will send my parnter and if she will like it. She is ever so helpful in that area (especially if you bring her a bottle of cooking sherrie). I am busy, busy busy with school work and starting my muggle business. Actually I just put grompton to bed and was on the way down to my laboratory to finishe up some muggle stitch markers. Maybe the idea for my partner will come through divine inspiration? Nah, better hit the library!!!!

New term

It is the first week of term and I am already behind. Since my assignment at the Ministry of Magic ended I have tried to figure out how to make a living. I have decided to try and start up my own shop. Mostly selling to muggles making knitting bags and needle cases etc. It is kind of an extention of my muggle studies training from last term. I am so happy that we are having free contact between the spoiler and spoilees. It should help me really spoil my student. She is in Slytherin and I am super excited to be doing things in the Slytherin colors!I am hoping over the weekend I will get caught up with all my Hogwarts business including our first Ravenclaw assignment of posting a bio. This term is going to be fast paced I can tell!

I got home today after running a million errands to find a damp, and slightly disgruntled owl named Ulrich on my front doorstep with a fantastic package from Lily Durmstrang. She is just so wonderful, this kit is absolutely spectacular. There is just so much to describe(and I am pretty tired) so I will let the pictures do the describing. I just want to say one more thing about Lily, I am so grateful that she would send me such a fantstic,thoughtful and beautiful package when she was not my assigned spoiler. She had to send another package out to someone else and I am ever so grateful for her generosity for also volunteering to spoil me. All I can say is mission accomplished. I just stopped raining only an hour ago, so Ulrich will be back on his way. He had a good nap and my owl Amelia was gracious enough to share some of her food (at least she didn't try and grab it out of his beak). Feels like spring!

Well my top secret Ministry assignment it finally finished and I have enjoyed a nice few days not having it hanging over my head. I have really enjoyed looking at the other muggle studies knitting swap packages that everyoen has sent. I have gotten some really good ideas for next term. I am so happy our swap will not be a secret swap this time around, I think it will be much better for communication sake. We have a little bit of a break from studies now, registration for next sememster starts on May 1st for new students and April 30th for returning students. I am trying to get some of my unfinished projects done before the start of next term. I have learned some valuable lessons from this term, like start the bag right away, while still lots of time. The sememster gets hectic really quick with house meetings, and Quidditch and homework. I feel very fortunate to be in Ravenclaw house. The ladies there are all so awesome, and we had so much fun on our own. I loved the newsletter that Minee put out, and Neila came up with some really fun homework assignments. I hope I get a swap partner from a different house this swap. As much as I love Gryffendors, I would love to make a bag for a different house. There is a bag design contest, and I might actually enter if I can think of something unique. I LOVE to make bags. Well got to go do some spring cleaning.

Sorry haven't posted in a while. I have been very busy on a top secret project for the Ministry of Magic. I was surprised that I got the call from them, but happy for the work. I have been deciding on if I should take a sememster off from Hogwarts. I had a really good time but it was a lot of work and it has all gotten kind of confusing at the end. I haven't heard from the person assigned to spoil me since the very begining of the swap. She didn't give her blog address so I don't know what is going on. I know that a few students have had to leave this term due to family issues, I hope that is not the case. I am glad I have been able to get to know the person I was spoiling. I could see how not having a secret swap would be really fun. Oh well. I am hoping an owl comes my way next week. I am really tired of stalking the muggle postman for ministry information as it is so secret they don't want to use owls! I am one tired Diggory! Off to bed! Emma

My spoilee got her package and she seems very happy with it. I am so relieved. As always I was stressed that everything that I did wasn't good enough, but I am glad she was happy. She also likes to study medieval muggles so I tried to get her things that would help her out. I still have not recieved an owl from my swap partner and I just can't imagine what surprises will be inside for me. I was so focused on spoiling my partner that I haven't given my package much thought, but now as the end of term is only a week away, I can't help watching the skys for an owl.

I can't believe it is almost the end of term! I just finished my Muggle Studies independant study project on the fiber processing of medieval muggles. How did they do it without magic? I am still stumped, all that knitting and spinning takes sooooo long the muggle way. I hope I get a good grade, we will see when my owl returns from delivering the package.
Gryffendors won the house cup this term. It isn't surprising that they are so good at quidditch, but I never expected them to sweep all three games. I bet they are still partying over in Gryffendor tower. And well they should, they played so well. The rest of us Ravenclaws are busy studying for end of term exams, and even though we are all really stressed out about it, we are secretly loving it. What could be better than sitting in a comfy chair in the common room next to a warm fire, studying! Not that I have had time for such luxury. Grompton has been on spring break this week and I can't wait till he goes back to school, I am exhausted. Hope everyone has a happy easter!!Emma

Wow am I behind on homework!! I have to get my quiz finished by tomorrow for Ravenclaw and I still haven't even started on my essay on Fleur. I have been putting my nose to the grindstone trying to finish my muggle studdies project (my swap kit). I got the bag finished, it is drying as we speak, but I am still on the fence about needle felting the Gryffindor crest on it. I don't want it to overwhelm the bag. I will have to work on it when it is fully dry. The embroidery for the stitch marker holder is almost done, and I have one more sewing thing for the bag, then I will take a trip to the closeset thing to hogsmeade we have here in the states to see if I can't pick up a few little trinkets to add to the box. Today is supposed to be my last day on assignment here at the ministry, and while it will give me more time to attend to my studies, I can't help but feel nervous about the lack of availible work and the lack of galleons coming in. Oh well. Hopefully this weekend I will be able to start packing up a very special package for my spoilee!

A weekend adventure

This weekend is the first Hogsmeade weekend of the term. Since I am a commuting student studying for an advanced degree, and my son Grompton has never been to Hogsmeade we decided to make a weekend of it. Rudolphus had to work late on Friday so he will be joining us later today. Grompton and I took a portkey last night and got our room in the three broomsticks. After a light dinner we head over to Madam Puddifoots for some tea and dessert. She is already decorated for Valentines day. Grompton had a lot of fun watching the cupids flying around. After a very enjoyable hour at Madam Puddifoots we took a leisurly stroll back to the three broomsticks. To my knowledge there is not an all magical villiage back in the USA so this is indeed a rare treat for Grompton. Having read to him the Harry Potter history books, he was very interested to see all of the places mentioned in them. I had a hard time explaining to him why we were NOT going into the Hogshead, especially at night. When we passed Honeydukes (which was closed for the evening) he stood there for about 10 minutes with his little nose pressed to the glass. I could see him trying to figure out what treats he would buy the next day. We finally made our way back to the inn, and after a few words with Madam Rosemerta we were off to bed. I am hoping to meet up with some of the other Ravenclaws tomorrow for a butterbeer. Rudolphus will meet us later in the afternoon. I will need all the help I can get when we take Grompton to Zonkos. I don't think the statement "don't touch that" will somehow be enough. Emma

Hey! Where did January go?

Another week seems to be whizzing by me! Unfortunately that also mean the weekends are going so fast too. This Saturday was the first time I played Quidditch rather than watched it. I had a lot of fun, but I don’t think being seeker is really the position for me. I didn’t seem to be looking in any of the right places. The snitch I must say was very cleverly hidden though.
Gryffendor found the Snitch and won the match. They are also in first place. This hit some of the Ravenclaws very hard. It is always disappointing, when you have tried your hardest and worked really hard, and it is just “bad luck” that you didn’t wind up wining. My son Grompton wanted to help me find the snitch but he and Rodolphus went out for haircuts and when they returned he was anxious to help me. He was very disappointed to know the game had ended so early. I was disappointed we lost, but glad it was over so quickly. I was able to use my time wisely and get the stitch markers done for my spoilee. They came out much better than I had imagined. The are on the big side, and hopefully she will not mind that. Personally I love to have a little “bling” hanging off my works in progress. I am also almost finished knitting the bag. I will felt it and have to decide on the design for the needle felting. I have an idea of what I want to do, but I will have to play with it until I get it just right.
Saturday evening I was writing a letter to our prefect for my owl to deliver when Grompton came over to ask what I was doing. When I told him I was writing to our prefect to try and cheer her up after the difficult day she was having, he asked why she was sad. I told him some of the Ravenclaws were upset about having lost the match. Yesterday when I picked him up from Hogwarts pre-school, he said he had made up a joke for me to tell the other Ravenclaws to help them cheer up. It was so very sweet of him. I couldn’t believe he was still thinking about it after all that time. The joke is below, it is not as good as the riddles our head girl sends us, but the sentiment is worth more than all the gold in Gringots.

Can it already be Tuesday?

Tomorrow starts the first round of quidditch and I am so nervous!!! I haven’t played since I was a girl. I hope I can help Ravenclaw come out of last place. I can’t believe we are in last place!! Hopefully everyone is getting used to writing in the diary every week and we can come up from behind. I have really been enjoying my time with the other Ravenclaws. Even though I am not as young as some of them, I remember what it was like to be a first year at Hogwarts, away from my parents for the first time and learning about our fascinating world of magic.
I think my spoilee will be most pleased when I send my owl out to her, or at least I hope she will. I just ordered some more adornments for some of the special extras I am going to include. I find that she is new to sock knitting, so I want to make sure she has everything she needs to get started and be the best accessorized Gryffendor sock knitter. Still waiting for yarn swatches, but I have found a back up yarn in case I don’t like any of the samples. Well better go study up for quidditch tomorrow!! Emma

Another week behind me

It was another very busy week for me. My advanced potions study is coming along very well. However the headmistess does not seem at all happy about a few of us trying to improve the potency of the butter beer provided here at Hogwarts. I saw Lucious Malfoy in the castle the other day. Apparently he is offering up a prize for a house contest they are having. After staring at him as long as I dared, I wondered to myself, why are all the hotties in Slytherin? Maybe I am just really intriged by the "bad boys". Good thing I married a Hufflepuff! Speaking of Slytherin, I found out the person spoiling me is in Slytherin. I am very excited, the ladies of Slytherin house seem to be very talented. I have been admiring some of their knitting projects and stitch markers. It is not the same Hogwarts as when I attened as a young girl. There finally seems to be a little more unity amoung the houses. I am sure this is what the founders had in mind when they started the houses.
I still need to purchase the sock yarn for my spoilee, I am awaiting some swatches that I have asked for. I know the brand of needles I would like to get for her, but I will hold off ordering until I know what size will best suit the yarn. I have decided on a pattern for her as well. I need to pick that up. I am planning on casting on the bag next week. I found the most wonderful Gryffendor colors. They are very rich looking I can't wait to start. I have been having so much fun getting all the things I need for spoiling. Since I am buying a pattern and spending the bulk of my budget on the sock yarn, I have decided to do a lot of handmade items for my spoilee. I would rather give her usefull items that will help her remember this fabulous term at Hogwarts, than fill the box with sweets.
I am getting very excited about our first round of Quidditch next week. My son Grompton is also very excited and wants to help me look for the snitch. Can you tell who his hero is? Emma

A frazzled first week (and it isn't even over yet!)

My first week back at Hogwarts has been hectic to say the least. I had forgotten how aggressive the study schedule was, and now I am trying to juggle school, family and work all at the same time. Monday night I was so engrossed in my potions homework assignment from Proff. Black that I neglected to check the Ravenclaw common room board and didn’t find out about our quiz until the next day. Yesterday I woke up with a bit of a chest cold and decided to stay home and rest. I had planned to use the day off to work on the quiz, but I turned on my muggle computer and fell asleep before it had ….what is the term…booted on? Anyway I did not have the energy to read the blogs of my fellow Ravenclaws. I am hoping to get it done tomorrow. I am so scandalized that I have not yet started the quiz, when usually I am right on top of things like that.
I have decided to use the Sock swap to my advantage at School as well. I am going to use the project as an objective experience in muggle knitting. I am not going to use magic to knit the bag, but I will use my hands in the way that muggles do. This, I feel, will give me greater insight into how the muggles live without the use of magic. I am also planning on trying my hand at some muggle embroidery for the kit as well. I only hope it turns out well. I am pretty skilled at magical embroidery and I can’t seem to figure out how the muggles ever find the time to work on projects such as these.
Well I better get back to work. I am going to stop by the hospital wing tonight and see if I can get some of Madame Pomfrey’s pepper pot solution. That should do the trick! Emma

Back to School

I received the name of my Hogwarts sock swap partner today. I am so excited, she is a Gryffindor. I already had in mind the bag I wanted to make and I thought it would look really good with the Gryffindor colors. So far the other Ravenclaws that I have met in the swap are very nice. Everyone is very excited about this swap, I am so glad that Molly let me in on it. I will have to consult with here where she gets her yarn from though.
I went to visit the school last week. It is still mostly the same as I remember it although the faces have changed. It doesn’t seem like Hogwarts without Proff. Dumbledor though. The place just doesn’t have the same “sparkle” that it used to. Although I am sure whoever is chosen as the new headmaster will give it their own brand of sparkle. I also managed to make it down to the potions dungeon for a peak around. Potions was by far my favorite subject (after all I grew up to be a potions mistress!). I am very saddened about the fate that has befallen Proff. Snape. I know he wasn’t always the nicest of people, and I know he often played favorites, which is unfair, but in my years at Hogwarts he was good to me. He saw my potions potential and helped me delve more deeply into the art of potion making. He was very, very gifted potions master, sadly he obviously got involved with the wrong crowd.
Anyway, we have a very busy weekend ahead of us, and I was hoping for a quiet weekend at home and continue cleaning and organizing our new home. Oh well, at least I can start planning the contents of my swap package properly now. Emma

A busy weekend

We spent this weekend trying to get our life back in order now that the holidays are over. My husband Rodolphus was working like a house elf yesterday taking all the Christmas decorations down while my son helped by playing with the toys he got. I was busy yesterday in the kitchen making food for the coming week. My husband and I were able to have a lot of quality time to ourselves this weekend and it was quite rare. Grompton had a playdate with a friend from Hogwarts pre-school and Rodolphus and I were able to do some leisurly shopping in Diagon Alley. Too bad I don’t know which house my partner is in yet, I saw a few things that would go nicely in my swap kit. I will have to return to that store if I remember after partner assignments are made. Saturday night I attended a post holiday party given by Rodolphus’ home office. They recently received a contract with the Ministry to help restore the landscapes destroyed by all of the horrible destruction of the Dark lord and his followers. It is good work, and much needed but he is traveling 3 times a week to the ministry which makes for a very long commute. The party was very nice and I always enjoy spending time with his co-workers. They are a very knowledgable group of witches and wizards and I am very interested in the work that they do. They are also eager to hear about my work with potions for the ministry.
This week I hope to get some of my unfinished projects done in order to get ready for my swap assignment. I already know what kind of bag I will make for my partner, I just need to determine house colors. I am planning a felted bag and then needle felt the animal that is the symbol of the house, in the center. This swap is so exciting, and I really look forward to connecting with my fellow Ravenclaws. New Years at Hogwarts

Last night my son Grompton and my Husband Rodolphus went to Hogwarts anual New Years Eve costume ball. It was an especially good one this year as we have much to celebrate now that he who must not be named has been defeated. There were many people last night paying tribute to the heros that have fallen achieving this. Our hosts were dressed as Lupin and Tonks. There was also a fellow dressed as mad eye moody, and a Sirus Black. It makes me sad that only now do we know that he was wrongly accused and should have been treated as a hero and not with fear and distain. There were also a few who chose to dress as those who were defeated. I saw Molly and Arthur last night and had to thank Molly for her pattern for those great sweaters she always makes for her family. My little Grompton was wearing his last night, he chose to dress as his hero Harry Potter. Molly is doing surprisinly well after the loss of her dear Fred. She and Arthur have a new baby girl and they looked as happy as could be. Hermionie was there as well, and it was good to see her. A real surprise was to see Gilderoy Lockhart who had a one day pass from St. Mungo's to attend the party. He was the same as always.
I am glad the ordeal of the last year is behind us , but I must say I am a little dissapointed about not being able to read about the adventures of Harry Potter in the daily prophet. I think it is good that they finally let him live in peace, but was always so fun to read all the new stories about him. I have saved all the past articles and are just happy to reread all the old stories.

Molly has gotten me involved is a great knitting swap with other witches and I am really looking forward to it. I am hoping this new year will bring lots of relaxation.
